All of you who say no - under any circumstances? Even if your country is attacked, invaded? Even to overthrow a despotic government and install one that shows more respect for liberty? Is there no circumstance in which you would fight?
I would fight in these two circumstances. They both illicit a fighting spirit inside me.
When it comes to this feeling, I recognize it is something innate, and it seems to me that the idea of defending your country oftentimes is a conduit for this innate desire.
I actually take a lot of solace in what Mentzer said about sport and his view of training. He pointed to the fact that sport was originally invented as a substitute for warfare. Certainly the camaraderie, competitiveness and do or die attitude among athletes is similar to what I experienced in the military. Mentzer tried to foster this attitude in his training sessions and I do the same. It is a release. A release from anxiety as well, he goes on about it in his books... I love what he said, went something like "I find life easiest when it is most difficult"; that is, when man is backed up against the wall and all he has is his killer instinct to operate on. Anxiety disappears and the time is NOW to make a choice.
I did know a lot of young guys while I was in who had a death wish. They just wanted to jump on a bomb and die for their country, die as a hero. Kinda sick in the head imo, I don't think they had found much meaning to life at that point in their lives and just wanted to be remembered for something or loved.

When I think of the chinese, I think of a video I saw of chinese citizens walking by an abandoned, live baby lying in the street, not saving it from helplessness because of some law apparently. It eventually got ran over by a fucking car, all of them just walking by turning a blind eye. Many chinese, it seems, have lost their humanity, be it because of their government or whatever, idk. Just a very sick image in my head, but I know there must be a small percentage of good people there I guess, don't know them personally though. Never been to China.
